The Aston Martin tie-up with Daimler’s AMG to produce new engines for Aston Martin was always likely to be just the tip of the iceberg of co-operation between the 3-pointed star and Gaydon. That’s because it’s not just new engines that Aston Martin needs, but new platforms too to replace its one and only ageing platform. And the first candidate for platform donation from Mercedes was always likely to be an SUV platform to build a Lagonda SUV on.

The Corolla brand is going the same way as Oldsmobile, Jif and Marathon – to the knacker's yard. It may be the most venerable nameplate in motoring history, but Toyota is ditching the Corolla badge in western Europe. The latest incarnation of the Japanese family car will be unveiled at the Paris motor show in September 2006, but it won't be wearing the Corolla logo.

But with the first Panameras getting out on the road, and the Porsche Panamera launching in the UK (Porsche Panamera UK prices) in September, Porsche has released a promotional video showing a ‘Day in the Life’ of its new 4-door coupe. The Panamera comes in three flavours to start with – the Panamera S (V8), the Panamera 4S (V8) and the Panamera Turbo (V8 Turbo) – with prices starting from £72,266 and rising to £95,298.
